Step Into The Light

An old childhood friend of mine told me a story that inspired this list. He recalled this time where he found a moth fluttering around in his room, buzzing around a light bulb.

The sight peeked his curiosity so he googled why the moth did that. He found out that it’s because moths are looking for the moon because they’re trying to go north. My friend lamented on by saying “everything inside of the moth is telling it to do exactly what it’s doing. It’s doing the right thing but it’s going after the wrong light. It saddened him seeing such a futile situation.

Those in Christ can see that this is the true state of humanity. We are all born fallen, wrongly seeking with good given natural vigor and passion after smaller things, created things, things that will die, instead of the eternal creator.  In honor of this, this weeks list reminds us of that true great big light that all mankind really is seeking after.

We know the light through the word

Psalm 119:105

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path

And through that word, we come to know the light personally.

John 8:12

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

And knowing the light, we become brave and bold.

Psalm 27:1

The LORD is my light and my salvation- whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life- of whom shall I be afraid?

And then, by our relationship with him, we become like him.

Matthew 5:14

You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.

But our new identity is for the true light to be exposed to others.

Matthew 5:16

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

And like we once were awakened by the dawn of the morning, we wake others up by the dawn of salvation.

Ephesians 5:14

This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

And in the end, he will shine indeed.

Revelations 21:23

The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.

So, let’s pray we help those lost fluttering “butterflies” in this world get back to the “Moon”. Amen
