Hope For the Weary

Throughout our lives, we experience highs and lows. The lows can even go to the point of hitting rock bottom, and during uncertainty, we tend to fall into worry and anxiety about what the future holds. Being young or balancing studies with ministry can also come with its burdens. Maybe you are the breadwinner of your family, or the first-generation college student facing the pressures of success, or the only Christian amid non-believers. Your life can feel like an endless battle against a clutter of voices and against the world.

If the daily trials of life have left you empty and exhausted, let us meditate on what Jesus offers to His disciples. In Matthew 11, Jesus gives us the opportunity to trade the burdens and heaviness that we carry in this life for God’s peace and rest.

Matthew 11: 25- 30 states, “At that time Jesus said, ‘I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this is what you were pleased to do. All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Are you tired, worn out, or burned out on religion? Come to the Father and He will show you real rest. God reveals himself to those who seek Him and those who seek Him find rest under his provision. As we spend more time with Jesus through Bible study and prayer, we will learn to walk on the waters and reign over the storm as He did. Through God, we will learn the unforced rhythms of grace.

Remember, God does not lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on us. Rather He desires to relieve us of our burdens, give us true rest, and make our joy complete.

Let us Pray,

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you for giving us each day to serve you and give you glory. We truly want to give our best effort in all that we do, but we know we could never be strong enough without you. Please give us the strength to persevere through our trials and tribulations. Please lift the burdens the world places on us and give us instead, the yoke of love. Teach us the depths of your grace and save us from sinking into this world. I want to be closer to you and find rest beneath your wings. I ask all of these in the name of Jesus Christ, your son. Amen.
